Runner Up: 1B Phil Nevin (HR, 2 H)

There’s no justice in the world if they make a movie out of Three Days In August but not Moneyball. But I think this is all a bunch of nothing.

What a pathetic attempt by the hitters. Really, the Cardinals are a hit or two from getting some decent run production the last few games, but the Cubs are miles away. If someone pitches 8 innings and only throws 100 pitches, either they’re completely dominant or the hitting is completely inept.

Inept is a word I would use to describe putting Novoa out there in the 9th. Quite likely the worst option in the pen, and plenty of good pitchers never get into the game. I was 90% sure it was over when he came in; Novoa escaped the same fate in the 5 hour Astros game, but it wasn’t going to happen here.

Nice way to waste a good Rich Hill start. At least he may be coming around. He’s only had the one bad start versus Colorado this month, and everyone else has been perfectly acceptable.

At least it was quick? The Cardinals should send a playoff share for saving them.

  1. What did you think of the brilliant decision to let Bynum hit against Flores? I know if Theriot comes in, he probably faces Wainright, but now you’ve got a right handed pitcher with Pierre on first. And Theriot is a better hitter, I’d rather have righty-righty with Theriot than lefty-lefty with Bynum.
