Cubs drop to 17-23
Nationals climbs to 14-27
POTG: C Michael Barrett (2 H, BB, R, RBI, defensive CS)
Runner Up: LF Matt Murton (3 H), RP Bob Howry (1 IP, 1 K)
who sucks: Neifi
“I was just trying to do the best for the team,” Perez said.
Cubs manager Dusty Baker said afterward it “was not a bad play,” and Perez said he did not regret the surprise move.

I am completely unable to put this in to words – but thankfully someone else does:
Imagine Mark Brunell trying to execute the two-minute drill throwing right-handed; imagine Chris Dudley trying to drop-kick free throws; imagine Robert E. Lee leading monkeys on roller skates into battle. That’s about what Neifi Perez did yesterday, only the others would have had a bit more justification. What Neifi did, especially given the situation, rhymes with quicken-spit.

Bonus: Apparently thou shall not write too much about Jacque Jones (and his contract) in the Tribune. (Sullivan said this morning it was actually three weeks ago, before the losing streak.)
