I guess I just hadn’t looked at the numbers yet this year, but Maddux is now only 10 wins away from moving into 10th place all time. I’m of the school that pitching wins are a inefficent way to measure pitchers, but that’s still quite cool.

I think he left because he was tired (87 pitches is about where you’d expect him for a 1st start) and not hurt, but I guess we find out soon.

Runner Ups: Opening Day Baseball In Wrigley, NEIFI (3H, 1R), D-Lee (HR [2], 2R, RBI, BB), SS Ronny Cedeno (2B, 3B, R, RBI), Randy Hundley in the radio booth, LF Matt Murton (outfield assist, DP), Bobby Howry (1.2IP, 3K)

This was all kinds of awesome. First time they’ve won an opening day in a great many years. 2:13 is even shorter than the Cougars game! This is all sorts of odd.

Spot starting Neifi here and it working out wonderful is a point for Dusty. He should get credit for it.

Tommorow’s start is a turning point – if we can get a win out of Marshall, we may have something here.

(let’s go bulls)

Yea, I’m not doing this every game for them.

Got there in the top of the second, which was pretty good time. Game moved quick – any 2:20 which was nice because it’s still a little bit too cold to be sitting outside for two hours and not doing much. Attendance was exactly what you’d expect for a Thursday 4pm start time in April (though, let’s note it’s more than the biggest ROH show).

Kane just jumped on the Swing early – both starters seeming a bit uncomfortable with the cold – and it kinda felt like cruise control from the 5th on.

The electronic name board in left center had the player’s last names as usual, but just a blank gap where stats should be, because of course there aren’t stats yet. It warped my mind for a bit. They’ve long had a “Beckett and Willis played here” promo in right center, but they’ve added a “Podsednik and Street” one to left field.

According to the KC podcast, they might be going with an 8 man piggy back rotation, though the pitching coach doesn’t like it.

Andy Van Slyke’s son, AJ, is on Quad City. I feel OLD.

Got tickets next on Sunday.
