GOOD

A BETTER question would be, when did the Women’s champ stop appearing on both shows?

Time to Stump The Smarts!

CRZ: (The first draft lottery?)

bzzzzt

Justin: I believe it was when they switched to GMs.

bzzzzt

As listed in the indexes (which I apparently should link to the main page – and also update the links which are there), Woman’s Champion Molly Holly was appearing on SmackDown! as late as 08/22, the last SmackDown before SummerSlam and Stephanie’s annoucement of his exclusive deal on the next RAW. They could’ve brought it up on the next RAW, but history notes they were more focused on bigger’s issues, like Molly’s hymen.

I’m thought I had included the SmackDown! Women’s title defenses on the Women’s Championship history, but I don’t see them there. Must’ve saved over them. Trish did face Stacy on the first Velocity.

I wanna say they at least explained the World Tag Team titles were exclusive, but a quick scan of the relevant RAW recaps doesn’t mention it. Maybe that’s just a figment of my mind.

BAD

James:

I don’t argue Jericho doesn’t get two title reigns there – though my point was you could creatively tell it differently. I think the point I wanted to make was “wow, what a pointless title reign.”

And the Raw title isn’t a linear title. It was created in 2002 when HHH was handed it. There’s no reason to think that the WWE title lost it’s link to the WCW title.

Way not to actually engage my thoughts in any meaningful way, and just repeat the doctrine!

Also, we HAVE a James. I may be forced to call you Ted..dy.

UGLY

Didn’t you read either of Scott Keith’s books, TCF? DON’T YOU KNOW STIPULATIONS MEAN NOTHING IN THE FEDERATION???????

The Original Donald
see Mick FOley re:WM2000

Problematic things in the post

– bringing up Scott Keith and his books even sarcastically in a thread which has nothing to do with them
– using your name in the post, when your name is already in the post
– always annoying “get in your last word after your last word” gimmick
– attempting to be funny, failing miserably
– MOST IMPORTANT: posting to entertain you, not doing the same for me

Continuing in this manner will get comments deleted. Stop! Thanks.

  1. Cubs sez: “I wanna say they at least explained the World Tag Team titles were exclusive, but a quick scan of the relevant RAW recaps doesn’t mention it. Maybe that’s just a figment of my mind.”

I’m pretty sure that, back when the big draft into 2 shows happened, the tag belts and the I/C belt were established as single-brand belts that belonged to whatever show drafted the current champion. Because Vince was all upset that Flair beat him to drafting RVD (the IC champ), so Kurt Angle told Vince to book RVD/Angle for that night and Kurt would win the belt for Smackdown. Vince did, and then he drafted the tag champs with his next pick, thinking he’d end up with them AND steal the IC title. Oh, but it did not work.

I don’t think they ever made it official that the women’s title became a Raw-only title, but there was only Nidia on Smackdown for the women’s champ to wrestle anyway. Aside from joke matches with Torrie, which I think Molly actually did. But after Molly stopped coming to Smackdown is when they started the epic Dawn/Torrie saga.

I have thought all along that the World Heavyweight Title of WWE’s Raw brand is supposed to be the WCW title. When Bischoff gave Hunter the belt, I’m pretty sure he made a reference to Brock no longer being an undisputed champion. But the biggest evidence to support this, and I’ve brought this up in similar discussions and I’m starting to think I’m the only person in the world who remembers it, is that Confidential did a big “the history of the World Heavyweight Title” feature story after the belt came back. And they said outright that it was the WCW title.

  2. Reading CRZ’s recap of the RAW where the belt debuted, they seem to make it pretty clear that it’s the WCW title, with Flair saying something about holding it 16 times and Bischoff holding it once.

  3. Also, the WCW title was once (offically) The Big Gold Belt. That’s a big gold belt. Good enough for me.

    >I may be forced to call you Ted..dy.

  4. Oh man I said July or August. I refuse to accept your bzzt.

For the Family Feud steal, then, wasn’t it that when Stephanie started her incredible tag tournament and they realized there was gonna be name confusion, the WWE tag titles on Raw magically became the “world tag team titles” to match the world heavyweight championship as if they had been all along.

I want to say that Jericho & Christian were the first champions under the switchover to world? Let’s see. CRZ’s 10/7/02 Raw has a WWE Tag Title match, 10/14/02 Raw has a World Tag Title match where J&C win the belts.

So continuing your “two sides’ recognition of an undisputed title” espousal, you’d say that in Oct ’02, Steph withdraws her brand’s recognition of the unified tag championship* and declares her tournament winners the WWE tag champions. Again, oh so elegant.

    * unified in November ’01, went to SD in March while Raw didn’t care, goes to Raw in August and SD cares enough to start trouble and make new belts.

    All garbage indeed.

The problem is the sequence of events went like this.

Brock: to SmackDown I go! With my shiny belt.

    Steph: how about these peaches!!!!!!!!

Eric: Huh. Well, I just happen to have this spiffy gold belt here. Here, Triple H!

Triple H: Look at me! I have a belt!

Meltzer: They gave Triple H the World Title because he didn’t think the smart beloved (though close to worthless) IC title wasn’t big enough for him, and HHH is insecure, although I won’t actually say that. ALSO, they’re killing the IC title. ALSO, they hate you.

JR: Since that looks like the WCW Title, I can not think of a reason why it does not share the same lineage as the WCW Title! And if you don’t agree, you’re a moron. The belt that kid is wearing in the front row is different. SOONER FOOTBALL IS AWESOME.

Ric: I heartily endorse this product and/or service! WOOOO!

HHH: I’d like to explain this, but I’m off to have sex with a corspe.

    collective smarts: SCREW YOU

Confidental: No one watches me! I’m so sad.

Did I need cartoons there? I think I did.
