It’s LOYOLA vs UIC! It’s the biggest small basketball game in Chicago and it’s a playoff game!
With DePaul isolating itself in CUSA and soon Big East, and NU being NU (and Chicago State being Chicago State), this is the biggest possible college basketball game involving opposing Chicago teams AND it’s apparently TOO HOT FOR TV*! What is your lead?
SunTimes:
Going to Wisconsin-Milwaukee for a Horizon League tournament game should bring back happy memories for Illinois-Chicago.
The Flames earned an NCAA tournament berth last March by defeating the regular-season champion Panthers on their home court in the Horizon final.
Funny, I thought there were two teams from the area playing. I’m sure my favorite paper will have something better.
ChiTrib:
For folks who wonder or worry about such things: No, Illinois-Chicago coach Jimmy Collins is unlikely to offer a postgame handshake to Bruce Pearl if the Flames and Wisconsin-Milwaukee play Saturday in the Horizon League tournament semifinals.
WAIT. WAIT. Did I miss the game? Did we lose already? Let me see – NO.
That’s just great. Can the suburbs help me out?
Daily Herald
A message greeted Loyola guard Blake Schilb when he arrived at practice Wednesday.
The words didn’t come from a secret admirer or an appreciative fan wishing Schilb luck in the Horizon League tournament. Instead, they came from Illinois-Chicago’s Elliott Poole.
Following a win Tuesday over Cleveland State, Poole said he’d make sure seniors Armond Williams and Cedrick Banks wouldn’t end their college careers with a loss to Loyola in today’s quarterfinal matchup in Milwaukee.
Now that’s what I’m looking for. (Southtown had the same basic lead, almost like these guys were actually following what’s going on.) What Blake should say is “your careers ended when they wouldn’t let Bailey play this season.”
“It was kind of getting boring seeing them win all the time,” Gouard said. “Now that we’ve won a game and shown people that we’re as good, if not better than them, it’s going to be very interesting.”
I hope so.
