“Who’s involved? Wait, you and Hawkgirl? Get out! Really?”

I’m so out of the loop of using a VCR, I guess, that I screwed up setting the times. So I got a half hour of Card Masters instead of the last half hour of the JL Movie. And I can’t believe they’re not reairing it again soon. I think there was a DVDVR post with spoilers I avoided a while back that I’ll go look for in a second.

If the last 20 or some minutes was as good as the first hour, the movie was some good fun. Fine story, and lots of awesome bits: Batman and J’onn doing an intervention on Green Lantern while Flash is clueless and “Wally West, Clark Kent…Bruce Wayne” were show making scenes, but the part that was the greatest in the history of the series:

GL: “Who’s side are you on?'”
HG: [with pleading eyes] “Don’t you know?”
[pause]
[Hawkgirl KOs Green Lantern with her shield, and her fiance shows up to hug.]

It’s kinda diminished by her not sticking to the dark side but it was all kinds of hilarious when it happened.

Ah, there’s that thread. Thanks Sven, now I’ll go search SuperNova and watch the rest.

  1. I can’t believe the lack of a push Cartoon Network gave it. I couldn’t even hear the dialogue in the beginning thanks to the loud, clanky graphic for that stupid robot show.

It was indeed very good, though. I liked the Batcave shenanigans. Dummy better not have been injured.

  2. That graphic was worse than all the stupid ones ESPN does. And like Cartoon Network really needs to advertise a show featuring a giant robot, because otherwise you might not see one on the channel.

Batman has quite the collection of leftover props.

  3. Cartoon Network has done a crappy job lately with promoting shows. That is they don’t promote them ahead of time. They used to, but they don’t anymore. At least there was a JLU teaser during the credits.

And the Megas bug was annoying. Show is actually quite lame. Would’ve been better if Mick Foley was the shows’ villain for the first couple of episodes.

Duel Masters is quite the show. Funny stuff with the name-dropping and the parodying of themselves.

As for “Starcrossed”, it was middle-of-the-road. Wasn’t the greatest show ever, but it wasn’t a suck-fest.

I thought “Kiss My Axe” was the better line.

And I liked how every person at that restaurant had black hair like Bruce and Diana.

It reairs July 31st. A week before JLU is slated to premiere.

  4. If memory serves, Starrcrossed is also out on DVD pretty soon.

B:TAS S1 should be streeting pretty soon as well, although I’m too lazy to check. But since JLU is likely to be the last gasp of the Timm / Dini DCAU, it’s about time to start with the stocking up on the older stuff.

    – Sven, still annoyed that they didn’t kill anyone off as teased.

  5. One other thing: Dummy shows up in the case during the Batman Beyond years, so it’s safe to say that he’s still alive and kicking. :)

  6. Thank God. Actually, I guess “Dummy” would have been the ventriloquist. What a horrible faux pas. Now Batman hates me, as so many fictional characters do.

  7. Actually, the dummy’s name is Scarface. The ventriloquist is, well, the Ventroloquist.

As for “Starcrossed,” I thought it was one of the best Justice League arcs yet. The story’s not blindingly original (alien race is here to help us, no wait, they’re not), but there were a million great little character moments (secret identities, “That’s…not…helping,” Alfred’s bit at the end). Good stuff.

Anyone know if JLU will still be an hour? It’d be a shame to quit on the hour-long eps when they really hit their stride with the format.

  8. Okay, the vote on Hawkgirl

    Flash – Yes
    Green Lantern – Yes
    J’onn – Yes

    Superman – No
    Wonder Woman – No

Batman – This is the tough one. But there’s no way Hawkgirl ever gets in the Bat Cave unless Batman allows it, so he must not totally want her dead. Which is saying a lot for Batman.

So I’m saying Yes, and figuring the vote was 4-2. I mean, what exactly were they going to announce if it was 3-3?

    The DVD is out 7/13
